It was 5 days after dad left when Cain decided he would leave me too. His excuse was, “ I’m going to my best-friend’s wedding overseas in the Bahamas. You’re old enough to cook and clean for yourself. You also have the maids, so there is no problem if I leave you for a couple of days.” So anyway, that basically meant I would be alone in the house for over 3 weeks. The only people left in our home would be the maids, who took their leave after 7:00 pm and on weekends. I guess it wouldn’t be too bad to live at home by myself. I had everything I need, unlimited food and entertainment, no heavy school work, everything but human company...
On that Friday night, exactly one week after Cain left, I couldn’t sleep at all. I slept most of the day away and I just couldn’t sleep at night. I put on my best nightgown which dad had brought me from London. I thought that if I wore it, I would fall asleep better but I woke right back up a little before twelve. I felt a little thirsty when I woke up so I went down stairs to get something drink. After I quenched my thirst, I was going back up stairs when I noticed the grandfather clock strike twelve. The loud chime of the first toll startled so much that I lost my balance and fell. “ I didn’t know father tuned the clock, he just got it”, I thought. I walked slowly into the main hallway and down the path to see the clock. After all twelve chimes rung, there was a strange silence, not a noise was made. I didn’t even hear myself breath. I stood still in the middle of the hallway.
Suddenly I heard strange noises coming from the west wing. They sounded like voices and small whispers. Out of curiosity, I felt that I should see where those noises were coming from. Little did I know that the events to follow would change my life forever.
Moments after I heard the sounds, I slowly walked the corridor to the back entrance of the house. Soon I was standing in front of the back door, not knowing what to expect when I opened it. I took a deep breath and opened it. Nothing out here? I thought. But, right after I closed the door I heard the same noise again. This time it seemed to come from the garden. I was afraid to go outside, not knowing who was out there. Reluctantly, I opened the door and started to walk down the stone path in the darkness. The moon is shining especially bright tonight. The moonlight strangely lit up the path to the pillars surrounding the garden. As I walked further down the path, the stones at edge started to glow one by one, revealing the symbols carved into them. This is too weird for me. I couldn’t take it anymore. My conscience told me go back inside yet my curiosity wanted me to keep walking. I stopped in the middle of the path, slowly turned around, and ran to back to the door. When I turned the knob, the door was locked! I could have sworn this door was unlocked when I closed it…I pulled and pulled to get the door open, but it seemed that it was sealed shut. How am I suppose to get into the house now?! Some force must have really wanted me to finish walking the path. So, out of fear and curiosity, I slowly walked down the path again. The stones lit up again and the symbols glowed. At the end of the path I stopped and looked on into the darkness of the garden. What could possibly be in there? I took a step into the darkness and I felt a cold chill through out my body. The things I saw next I can’t really describe. A brilliant color of blue flashed in my face, as it seemed that I was floating into empty space. I knew that I wasn’t in the garden anymore. As I floated, I saw stars in the darkness and vibrant colors flashed around me. Suddenly, I felt my body being propelled into the darkness ahead of me so I shut my eyes. When I finally opened them I saw green.
I lifted my head up to see that I was laying face flat on the ground. I quickly pounced up and took a look around. It was broad daylight; contrary to the darkness I left at home. It seemed I was in a wood forest of some kind. I had no Idea where I was or what I was supposed to do. Out of the shock of realizing what just happened to me, I screamed. The silence after I screamed was what scared me the most. “What was I to do in this forest and how would I get out”, I wondered. Suddenly I heard another noise. It was the sound of trampling, from a horse. I felt the ground tremble beneath me. I had an on going fear that made me run. I ran as fast as I ever did before, through the forest and the trees. The faster I ran the louder the sound became until, it was right behind me. I was getting tired of running in what seemed like and endless forest so I stopped for just a minute and turned around.
