I saw a masked man covered in black on a white horse. His eyes were a radiant violet, an eye color I never seen before. I must I fainted after that, because I woke up in a total different place. It was dark now and I was lying near a fireplace. I woke up to the sound of wood crackling and to the smell of lemon grass. When I opened my eyes completely I was looking directly into the fireplace. I turned around and saw two people looking at me. I couldn’t tell if they were human, or not. First I notice the man that was on the horse. He was uncloaked now but his eyes were still blazing. He looked to be about the same age as my brother, even younger. He had burgundy looking, neck length hair and piercing violet eyes. I quickly came to notice his ears, which definitely weren’t human at all. His ears looked much longer than human ears and more pointed. He looked like something I would read from my fairytale books. Human or not, he was still very handsome looking. The other one who I saw was a girl, I think. She looked young, about 12, and had vampire blue eyes that sparkled. Her hair was dark green, but short. Her ears were the same length of a human but more pointed. She seemed mystic, like an exotic flower. I wonder what I looked like to them...
The man who was looking at me was sitting Indian style on the floor.
“Quel undome.”
I had no idea what he was saying. “Lle rangwa amin?” he said with an angry look.
“I have no idea what your saying!”
“Your not from here are you?”
The moment he said that I froze up. I didn’t know what to say.
“ Your neither elven nor goblin nor pixie.”
“ I’m human.”
“Human?” There haven’t been humans in Athosia for over 1000 years!
“No humans?” I thought. How could there possible be a world without humans, unless, I wasn’t on Earth. “ What are you?” I asked.
“I’m, well it’s complicated”.
“What’s so complicated about what you are?”
“ I’m elven but, I’m also...” he started. “My name is Vankari and this female here is Mau, she a pixie”, he finished.
“I don’t recall even asking you about your name or hers, but thanks anyway.” I instantly got up from the floor and sat on my knees. “How is it your able to speak my language so easily?” I asked.
“Your tongue is not too hard to comprehend. Your human language is not totally extinct from our land, unlike your race. How did you get into Athosia anyway?”
“I have no idea. I just know I’m not suppose to be here”, I said. “Since I know your names I guess I should tell you mine. It’s Efeshia.”
After we exchanged a few looks, I felt it was time for some real answers, especially how I managed to be in his den. He went on to tell me how I fainted from fear and hit my head on the ground. He said he did me a favor by picking me up and riding me off to his place. “What did he save me from”, I wondered.
“Its not safe to be in the forest after sundown”, he said.
“Why?” I asked, more curious than ever.
“Things could happen, especially to strangers after sunset.”
“What kind of things?” I wondered. Vankari got up from off the ground and started to walk towards the window.
“Where are your people?” Vankari asked. He started to form a very depressing look on his face. “Are you alone in your land? Is that why you left?” he muffled.
“No, not really. I don’t know how I got to be here.” It was ironic though, what he said. Vankari the paused and walked towards me. I jumped up and looked face to face at him.
“Tell me, is there any salvation without damnation?”
“What is that supposed to mean?” I thought.
Vankari’s statement made no complete sense. How was I supposed to comprehend what salvation or damnation meant to him? He must have noticed that I was completely puzzled by him, because he just turned away and opened the window.
When he opened the window I saw the most beautiful thing since, I don’t know when. It was a glowing moon in the sky, shimmering brilliantly, instantly lightning the room we were in. It was so pretty I almost cried. “The moon back home could no be as pretty as this”, I thought. Vankari kept his eyes fixated on the luminary. But for some reason, seeing the moon in the sky made me feel very tired, so I lay back on the mat near the fire place and closed my eyes, not knowing the horrible day that would come after the beautiful night sky...
