The Confession: Project Lilith (Part 1)

It was a rainy Saturday night when I received the call. It was the call I was waiting for over four years. Over a year ago, I got in contact with a very powerful and witty lawyer named Mr. Victor. I contacted this man in order to find my half-brother, Xavier, with whom I lost contact with five years ago. Victor researched all available information on him, but there were no clues to where he might have disappeared to. After a while, I lost contact with Victor, until now. To my astonishment Victor was on the other line with some new information regarding my brother. After about five minutes of catching up, Victor got to business.

“Ms. Delan, I recently came across some confidential information regarding your brother. There are things that I can’t tell you on the phone, so we should arrange a date to met in person.”

What kind of things could be so secretive, that we have to met in person? Anyway, it didn’t matter. As long as I knew something about my brother, I didn’t care how I got that information.

“Ok Victor lets met for lunch. How about tomorrow at 2? I know a great place by the docks called Sherus. We can talk there.” I never been to Sherus but I knew it was a nice, quiet place that we could discuss our business.

“That sounds like a good idea Ms. Delan, I’ll pick you up at 1:30pm. See you then.”

I couldn’t wait till Sunday. I was both nervous and excited to hear the latest info on my brother. All my life Xavier had been a mystery to me. I met him by chance six years ago at a summer class at Haverford. I didn’t even know he was my brother when I met him. At that time I was sixteen and taking advanced art classes during the summer. Soon, a new young student was introduced to our class. His name was Xavier. He was so handsome with his raven black hair and exotic green eyes. He had a sharp smile with a robust body to match. Over the next week and a half we began to hang with each other and talk about our dreams. One day we started talking about our family life and I told him that I lived with my mom, Sarah Vansign, and that I never met my father. Suddenly tears ran down his face as he nervously looked around. It was an uneasy feeling.

“What is your mother’s middle name?” Xavier asked nervously.

“How did you know she had middle name? It’s Lilith.”

At that moment my life changed forever. All that I thought I knew and believed was a lie, or so I thought. I always believed my father died unnaturally before I was born, which would explain the large amount of money I had in my trust fund. Mother said it was over 1.2 million dollars in life insurance. There were pictures all around the house of my father and mother together, then there was his hospital death certificate, so I figured all was true. But, Xavier told me differently. He said he knew my mother well when he was a child. She was a nice woman that assisted our father as an accountant in his scientific research company, called Spirex. Xavier went on to describe our father as nothing short of a wolf; A man whose ambition for company power isolated himself from his family and led him astray. While father was still married to Xavier’s mother, he began a secret relationship with my mother, which ended with my birth. To save himself from impending shame, he broke up the relationship and paid my mother off to keep quiet. That’s how it happened from Xavier’s point of view, and I believed him, not to mention we share the same last name. Father did die four years after I was born and left my mother and I a few items of his in his will...
