The next morning, Takashi was nowhere in sight. When I asked my cat where he was, she said he went out with his girlfriend for a morning picnic and he would not be back until evening. The word girlfriend cut across my mind like a blade across baby skin. "Girlfriend? Really?" I asked in shock.
"Of course he has a girlfriend. He’s sixteen. He ought to have one by now!"
That evening I went out for a long walk. I just kept walking and never stopped. I walked about two miles before I realized the sun was setting. Three boys suddenly popped out of the bushes on the sides of me. I started to run, and then they ran behind me. That was when I realized I was in trouble. When I finally got tired I turned around and faced them.
“Look, I don’t have any money on me and I am tired, please stop following me!”. One of the tall boys stepped in front and walked closer.
“It’s not money we want. You see, around these parts there are not a lot of girls to go around, and we just figured you would like to have some fun. We just think…” the boy paused. He was looking behind me at someone. I spun around to find that Takashi was right behind me.
“Hey you kids… This is my neighborhood and this girl is my family, so back the hell off!!!”
At that the boys bolted in opposite directions. Takashi took my arm a led me to his bike, which I didn’t notice before.
“We should be getting home now. Its dark and I’m ready for dinner! You should know better than to walk alone at sun down. Don’t ever do this again!”
We rode off down the dark road and to our home.
The next morning I woke up early so I could catch Takashi before he left. When I got out of bed, I quickly went to the bathroom. When I opened the door, he was standing in the middle of the bathroom fresh out the shower. I was so embarrassed I thought I would die. I turned so quickly when I noticed my mistake that I didn’t see nothing but brown skin and a loose towel. “Dude, I’m so sorry for barging in like that. I just had to pee and didn’t know you were in here. Sorry.”
At least I knew he was planning to leave early. I wondered where he could possibly go at this time. “Could he want to see his girlfriend so early in the morning?” I wondered. What could he possibly do so early in the morning?
When he got out of the bathroom, I asked him where he was going.
“None of your business little girl. My life has nothing to do with you.” I looked down at my feet.
“Well I’m sorry, but you seem like your spending most of your time away. I just want to know the reason for it.”
He quickly put on a black shirt and jeans and ran out the house. Before I could say goodbye, he halfway down the block on his bike.
